2025 - 2026 Season

Reverence & Resistance is a choral concert showcasing music that speaks to humanitarian questions of our time. Accord’s spring concert explores two spheres of devotion: spiritual beliefs and humanitarian ideals. The program features the treble-voice world premiere of Rumor Mill, an a cappella masterpiece about loss and longing in the Palestinian diaspora. Acclaimed poet Naomi Shihab Nye will read, and Accord Composer-in-Residence Shireen Abu-Khader will offer commentary.

The program puts music of protest side-by-side with music of praise: a
contemporary mass by Andre Caplet, a 13th-century chant reimagined by David
Douglas, and a joyfully transporting piece by composer Cedrick Howoseb, in the
Otjiherero language by way of Namibia, accompanied by djembe. Other works include Imaginary Garden, by Marie Claire-Saindon, a setting of poetry by
Baha’i political prisoner Mahvash Sabet of Iran, and River, by Joan Szymko,
exploring the tension between inevitable change and necessary action.

In their intensity, resilience, and purposeful power, reverence and resistance have much in common. Join Accord for this program that showcases how choral music can speak to the living issues of our time.

Audience members are invited to join us for a reception following the performance.
